The Maltese Music Scene

International Acts: The past ten years have seen a sudden surge in international acts performing in Malta thanks to the efforts of local promoters and the consistent success of such events. Some names from the past few years include Sting, Jose Carreras, Elton John, Michael Bolton, Tom Jones, Ronan Keating, Santana (pictured on the right) and many more.

The Valletta International Baroque Festival: The musical agenda for the year kicks off in grand style with two weeks full of baroque music performances, using some of the stunning baroque architecture Malta boasts - the Manoel Theatre, the St. John's Co-Cathedral, the Grand Master's Palace and so on. Typically held between 10 and 25 January.

The Opera Festival: This is an annual event taking place in March.

International String Orchestra Festival: This is a spring event taking place over one week and consists of a diverse and enchanting programme of orchestral performances and events.

Jazz Festival: Drawing a number of internationally recognizable jazz acts each year, this event is part of the European Jazz Festival circuit and takes place on the stunning Valletta waterfront. Past performers include Diana Krall, Chick Corea and Natalie Cole. More information on the jazz festival page.

Earth Garden: 3 days of celebrating indie life, with two stages for the music (first week of June at Ta' Qali National Park)

Farsons Beer Festival: very popular with locals. The entrance is free, the beer not (sorry). Two weeks of the very best that local talent has to offer, from rock to indie. July.
