SBL Malta
Walking Tours

Malta is an ideal place to book a walking tour and SBL have a long history of hosting walking groups on the islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino. Among the reasons why the Maltese islands are so popular with walking groups are the great weather and the sheer variety of things to do. Visiting groups have plenty of things to see and activities to choose from whether on a walking tour or excursion or during rest days.

Typically walking excursions around Malta and Gozo last between one and five hours and there are a variety of routes to choose from that range in levels of difficulty, things to see and duration, so that everyone is catered to. Also, there are more than enough routes to ensure that a walking holiday to Malta is never dull.

The general terrain of the island is hilly but with moderate gradients so that walkers with an average level of fitness shouldn’t struggle along the way. The advantage of this is that walkers gain high ground without too much effort and can enjoy the beautiful vistas around the sunny island.

The best time to visit is between March and mid-June when the hills and valleys are still green from winter, the weather is sunny and warm but not yet too hot, and the island is not crowded by the large influx of summer tourists. October and November are also good months to visit as the summer heat begins to die down. These are great times to visit the beach, bask in the sun or spend lazy afternoons wandering the ancient walled cities of Mdina and Valletta or shopping on the more cosmopolitan Sliema waterfront.

Some main sites of interest in Malta include its seven thousand year old temple complexes, areas of natural beauty such as The Azure Window in Gozo, which is a huge natural stone arch, fishing villages such as Marsaxlokk where local life mirrors a bygone era, and of course the beautiful sandy beaches. Gozo is also just a half-hour ferry ride away from Malta and is a great place for a day visit. Gozo is greener than Malta and the prices are a bit cheaper, and in general, any visitor to the beautiful island of Gozo will agree that it is one of the most laid back, tranquil places in the world.
